Welcome to Danfoss Heat Pumps

Grants for Heat Pumps

Danfoss Heat Pumps UK can offer the following Grants and Incentives:

Renewable Heating Premium Payment Scheme (RHPP) 2011

  • Up to £1,250 in government payments available to install eco heaters
  • £15 million in total to support up to 25,000 installations, with a review after £10m
  • Information line and website launched from the 21st July 2011
  • Close monitoring of the technologies to help understand performance

Householders across the country could get up to £1,250 of government funding to help towards the cost of installing renewable heating systems such as air and ground source heat pumps.

The Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme will run from 1 August 2011 – 31 March 2012. However, you can register your interest beforehand.

Who can apply for the Renewable Heat Premium Payment?

If you live in England, Scotland or Wales, you are eligible to apply for the Renewable Heat Premium Payment.

If you currently rely on oil, liquid gas, solid gas or electricity then you can apply for air, ground - or water - source heat pumps.

So only those who do not currently use gas as their main heating fuel can apply for these technologies.

If you have any further questions about whether you can apply the Energy Savings Trust can be contacted on: 0800 512 012.

What do I have to do before applying?

  • The property must be owned by you or if you are a tenant you must be purchasing the system yourself and have permission from the owner of the property
  • Property must have loft insulation to 250mm and cavity wall insulation (where practical)
  • You should have all necessary planning and environmental permissions in place
  • The product and installer must be certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme. All Danfoss heat pumps and Approved Installers are MCS accredited; contact us for more information

Finally, not only is the scheme a great excuse to install technologies that will dramatically reduce your energy costs at home but the Government are also keen to learn as much as possible about renewable technologies. And for that they need your feedback.

As a requirement for the Renewable Heat Premium Payment you will be asked to submit information about how the technology you have installed is performing in its environment and you might be selected to have some monitoring equipment installed at the same time as your technology.

How to apply?

If you've read the above carefully and you feel satisfied that you are eligible to apply for a Renewable Heat Premium Payment you can register your interest to be notified when the scheme is open for applications.

What next?

If you meet all the criteria you will receive a voucher (time-scale dependent on the technology you are installing) and you will need to sign and return the voucher with a copy of the invoice from your installer and certificate from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme once you have installed your technology.

When everything has been checked and signed - you will receive the money directly into your bank account.

Other considerations:

  • No vouchers will be valid beyond 31st March 2012 and the expiry date on your voucher may be earlier than this
  • The offer is cash limited. Once the £12M budget for individual households is reached, there will be no more RHPP

Final checklist:

  • Check the technology is suitable for your home.
  • Ensure you have all the basic energy efficient measures installed in your home (cavity and loft installation)
  • Checking planning permission (particularly for Air Source Heat Pumps)

Communities and Renewable Energy Scheme
From April 2009 Community Energy Scotland took over the management of the community renewables grant programme, now called Communities and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES). CARES continues the support available for communities under the previous Scottish Community and Householder Renewables Initiative (SCHRI). The scheme provides support and grants for community groups Scotland wide. Grants of up to £150,000 are now available. Please visit scotland.gov.uk for more details.

Schools can also apply for the Lottery funded Community Sustainable Energy Programme
The Community Sustainable Energy Programme will provide 8 million to community-based organisations for the installation of microgeneration technologies. It will also provide 1 million for project development grants that will help community organisations establish if a microgeneration and energy efficiency installation will work for them. Capital grants will be awarded on a competitive basis at quarterly Selection Panel meetings. Project Development grants will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis until all funds are spent.

The deadline for the next round of funding is 5pm on Friday 30 July 2010. If you are submitting to the next round please ensure both the online application and all required hard copy documentation is received at CSEP on or before this deadline. Please visit communitysustainable.org.uk for more details.

Carbon Trust - Energy Efficiency Loans
The Carbon Trust offers interest free credit towards the installation of energy saving equipment such as ground and air source heat pumps.

The Carbon Trust's Energy-Efficiency Loans are unsecured and interest free, with no arrangement fees and a straightforward application process. Loans can be repaid over a period of up to four years, and many of our borrowers have found that their energy savings more than cover their repayments.

Loans of between £5000 and £200,000 are available.

To qualify for a loan, the projected cost of energy used after completion of the proposed project must show a significant reduction when compared to your existing energy bill. Energy Efficiency loans can be used in conjunction with the Governments ECA scheme (see below)

Carbon Trust - Energy Efficiency Loans

The Enchanced Capital Allowance Scheme (ECA)
This is a government scheme to manage climate change.
It provides tax relief for businesses investing in renewable energy products such as Ground and Air source heat pumps.

100 per cent first-year Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECA) allow the full cost of an investment in designated energy-saving plant and machinery to be written off against the taxable profits of the period in which the investment is made. The general rate of capital allowances for spending on plant and machinery is 20% a year on the reducing balance basis. Please visit eca.gov.uk for more information.

Energy Saving Scotland
The Energy Saving Scotland Small Business Loans Scheme, which is supported by the Scottish Government, provides interest free loans of £1000 to £100,000 to help companies introduce measures to reduce energy consumption or install renewable energy technologies such as ground and air source heat pumps.
